Cracking The Bunny Code :)

When you think back to back to your childhood, is there a special “lovey” or “security blanket” that comes to mind?

I have little doubt of exactly how Mayhem will answer that question 30 years from now. And that’s because it’s no secret that a bunny has been Mayhem’s sidekick since day one.

In the car, on a plane, in a hotel, at home taking a nap …. the bunny has always been by her side, in her hand, or tucked under her arm. And that same bunny has endured some hardships over the course of 5+ years. And those hardships have taken their toll (read: the bunny permanently stinks!). There’s a definite attachment to the lovey that she’s had since day one, but I also can’t bear to watch it disintegrate to nothingness.

I’ve been trying, unsuccessfully, to wean her off of the bunny because I want it to be a keepsake that she’ll have forever. I’ve been storing favorite things (books, clothing items, etc.) from her childhood, in a hope chest, that I plan to pass on to her one day. And while I’m not naive enough to believe I can simply throw the bunny in the hope chest, I do envision it on a shelf in her room where she can still see it, but not let it deteriorate beyond what it’s reached.

Up until now, my attempts have all crashed and burned. After allowing her to pick out three new puppies (in as many months), she continuously tossed the puppies and tracked down the bunny at her first sign of fatigue.

BUT … I’m pleased to tell you there is now a new bunny in her life … it’s a Jellycat Bunny from Peekawhoo, and Mayhem is smitten with it.

And I think I’ve finally cracked the code as to why a bunny was the ONLY answer to replacing THE bunny. (Sounds obvious, but not really.)

First things first, bunnies are EASY to carry ….

FashionByMayhem_508CR

The ears are PERFECT for little hands!

This is exactly how she’s ALWAYS carried her bunny and I’ve now come to realize that none of the other plush animals are this easy to handle for those little hands. It’s all about the EARS!!!

Next up, face “rub-ability” ….

FashionByMayhem_511CR

Mayhem has declared her new Jellycat Bunny to be the softest thing she’s ever felt in the whole world, and has reinstated an old part of our nightly routine … the face rub. With the old bunny, we had a routine (since she was in a crib) to rub her face with the bunny’s ears to help her fall asleep. But, after that bunny sustained several “injuries” and had to have both ears stitched back up, she decided the ears were too “”scratchy” to rub on her face anymore.

I’ll be honest with you, I feel like I’m turning back time a little bit (and happily doing so) by having her re-adopt a special part of our routine that I thought she had simply outgrown. But I’ll gladly rub those soft ears against her cheeks for as long as she’ll let me.

In case you’re keeping score, that’s 2 points for the ears.

And for the final piece of the code, I’m going to share with you the single reason that bunnies are the GO TO gift I give when I know someone is having a baby.

Are you ready for this …?

Built in sleep mask for daytime naps:

This is the honest to goodness way that Mayhem has slept with her bunny for years. I remember the first time I saw her napping this way and all I could think was “genius!”.

So I ALWAYS order bunnies anytime I need to purchase a gift for a new baby, secretly hoping the bunny will provide the same nap time magic (and entertainment value) for the parents 😉

Bunnies are the best and I promise you that the Jellycat Bunnies from Peekawhoo are by far the softest and sweetest we’ve come across. For realz.

And we’re venturing to guess there’s someone in your life who would love one too!

The super sweet girls at Peekawhoo are currently offering a 10% discount on all sizes of Jellycat Bunnies using the code: MAYHEM10 until March 17th. And I’m telling you, you’ll win Easter, baby showers, birthdays or any gift giving event with one of these monogrammed bunnies! Did I mention that the monogramming is FREE? Because it is. And aren’t personalized gifts the best?!?!

Easter is April 5, so hop to it! {<— You see what I did there? } You don’t want to wait and risk the chance of them being sold out (and Easter is the busiest time for bunnies … hint, hint!!)

Click right here to snag your own Jellycat Bunny from Peekawhoo.

Oh, and one more quick note – just for reference sake, Mayhem is cuddling the medium size beige Jellycat Bunny.

Nope, wait, one more thing – You know we ONLY share with you products and businesses that we really truly love and I assure you, this is both. Yes, Mayhem LOVES the bunny, but Heather and Kelley (the owners of Peekawhoo) are genuinely lovely ladies. Smart, funny, engaging, savvy small business owners. And we sure do love supporting our fellow small business owners. Also, their Instagram feed is a total delight – if you like cute bunnies and babies paired with totally clever commentary, you MUST follow them HERE ! Now I’m really finished. Over and out.

You can have one!! And thanks for noticing the new look – it was time for a change and I’m really happy with how it’s looking/functioning. Still a few tweaks to make, but not bad for a weekend’s worth of pulling my hair out 😉

You did it!!?? WOW. You are one multifaceted mama! When I tried setting up FB I had to come back a year later. Then I cried and yelled and finally got it! There is a reason I sew (my motto). 😉

I know enough to be dangerous. As in, enough to break things, but generally how to step backwards and un-break them. I also know my limitations, so my goal was to keep things simple, clean and something I could manage on my own. And trust me, I totally get the crying and yelling over anything like this …. sometimes technology is torture! PS- I can’t sew to save my life. We try, but even a straight line eludes us 😉

I just ordered one with my babies name on the ear! I am a foster mom so I love things with names on them, (hopefully it means she will always get to keep it). But I also hope to adopt her. Thank you! ♡

My childhood comfort animal was a bunny too!! I got mine on my sixth birthday. I’m in my teens now and still sleep with that bunny on my bed every night and hold onto it when I’m sad. 🙂

Love your bunny tale! The last time I was in France I noticed nearly all of the young children carrying some sort of stuffed animal. I asked our French friends about it, and was told that it is customary to give babies something very soft to sleep with, as they find it soothing and fall asleep easier. They call them “doo doos”. Once it becomes clear which toy is the child’s favorite, the moms rush out to buy 1 or 2 identical “spares” while they are still available. Then, every once in awhile they rotate the spares into circulation so they can secretly wash the original! Very sneaky and clever, those moms.

I had a white bunny called Ronaldo, that I carried everywhere with me when i was little. you are right it is absolutely in the ears, nothing else compared. i carried Ronaldo around for years until every limb had been stitched back on more than a handfull of times… got it repalced with another jelly belly bunny and it just wasn’t the same, I saw the jellycat bunnies at M Hopple & co in Kenwood (cincinnati native here!) and i knew my future children will own that fuzzy little bunny! So adorable that Mayhem loves the bunny ears too! Love following on Instagram and seeing all of the fun paper dresses! Looks like you are having a great time!
